Proclaim – Church Presentation with Awesomesauce
If you are like me you have a love-hate relationship with Microsoft PowerPoint.
It’s gotten to good place in the last two iterations and it does a good job of presenting slides in a linear fashion.
However the rage has built against this product because of how hopelessly inept it is as church presentation software. Now, I can’t really blame PowerPoint, it isn’t designed to do what churches want it to do. You want your slides to be somewhere accessible in little slide packs for each song and then as you need them you place them into PowerPoint and off you go. The problem with this is that it is so messy and prone to mistakes.
Enter Proclaim church presentation software from Logos.
Proclaim takes presentations to the cloud, allowing groups of people to collaborate without emailing the files around and trying to keep everyone on the latest version.
I strongly recommend you try it out, particularly as it is free through January. That said, it is not free after that point. I don’t really understand why church presentation software has to cost a lot more than PowerPoint but Proclaim is quite competitive with the other products in this space.
UPDATE:I forgot to mention one of the coolest features – integration with CCLI’s SongSelect. So your lyrics can be pulled down from SongSelect, no more manual entry!!!!

It’s the new, simple way to put presentations together. Just register an account, download the app, and discover how effortless presentations can—and should—be.

I'm still waiting for the software that will project not just lyrics but music as well. For many people the only interaction they have with music is with the church hymnal, and I don't want to lose even that minimal exposure to musical literacy. So I scan into a PDF file, straighten it out, select a stanza at a time, insert that to the presentation, highlight the verse being sung, and then go grab the next stanza. It's time consuming but worth it, not only to preserve literacy, but to meet the needs of other musicians who like to sing parts. It's all covered under my CCLI license.
Hi David, thanks for taking the time to read my article. You are dead right – the next step is to have a program that does both sheet music (or lead sheets) and lyrics.
I’d like to see a windows/mac app that displays lyrics (what they have already done) with a companion software for tablet or PC that displays the music downloaded from SongSelect. Your approach is an interesting one, keeping the music literacy up. Do you have a particularly music congregation or is it just helpful for part-singing in hymns?
I'm not sure the Planning Centre web app downloads songs off CCLI SongSelect. It'll be cool if it does but what it does is allow you to look through your pdfs for your songs in your service. Ahh. I'm not that good at explaining so here's a link to check it out:
